Kristalleja

Kristalleja is the Finnish plural form referring to crystals. In science, crystals are solid substances whose atoms are arranged in a highly ordered, repeating pattern, forming a crystal lattice. This internal order leads to characteristic shapes and precise angles, often referred to as crystal habits.

Etymology: The Finnish word kristalli derives from the Swedish kristall, which in turn comes from Latin crystallus and Greek krystallos. Kristalleja is the plural form used in everyday language to denote multiple crystals.

Formation and structure: Crystals form by crystallization from a melt as it cools, from supersaturated solutions, or by deposition from a vapor. Nucleation starts at small ordered clusters, and growth proceeds as atoms, ions, or molecules are added in a repeating arrangement, producing a well-defined external form.

Types and classification: Crystals occur both as natural minerals and as synthetic materials.
