Krishna Godavari, commonly referred to as the Krishna–Godavari Basin or KG Basin, is an offshore sedimentary basin along India's east coast. Named after the Krishna and Godavari rivers, it lies in the continental shelf off the states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, with onshore portions near the deltas of the two rivers. The basin formed during the tectonic rifting that opened the eastern margin of the Indian Plate, and it contains sedimentary sequences from the Paleozoic to the Cretaceous, forming potential reservoirs for hydrocarbons.
