Kriscentraler is a term used in Danish and other Nordic languages to describe centralized crisis response centers that coordinate and deliver emergency and psychosocial support during acute distress or danger. They are designed to bring together health, social services, law enforcement, and other relevant actors to provide rapid, integrated assistance.

A crisis center typically offers around-the-clock access, triage and risk assessment, immediate crisis intervention, and psychological support. Services may include safety planning, short-term counseling, referral to longer-term care, and, in some cases, temporary accommodation or shelter. Many kriscentraler operate mobile crisis teams that can respond in the field, and they maintain coordinated communication channels among hospitals, police, social services, and NGOs to ensure a cohesive response.

Governance and funding structures vary by country and region. Kriscentraler are often operated by municipalities, regional health authorities, or national agencies, with financing from public budgets, grants, or public–private partnerships. They may run a central call center, on-site crisis facilities, outreach teams, and digital services such as crisis chat or text lines.

Access and scope also differ, but common features include availability through emergency numbers or professional referrals, potential self-referral in some jurisdictions, and an emphasis on confidentiality and accessibility for diverse populations, including multilingual support. The overarching goal of kriscentraler is to stabilize individuals, reduce the risk of harm, and link people to appropriate longer-term services, while improving coordination across agencies and reducing strain on acute care systems.
