Kriptográfiát

Kriptográfiát, or cryptography in Hungarian, is the practice and study of techniques for secure communication in the presence of third parties. It encompasses methods for encrypting and decrypting information to ensure confidentiality, integrity, authentication, and non-repudiation. At its core, cryptography involves the use of algorithms and keys to transform readable data, known as plaintext, into an unreadable form, ciphertext, and vice versa.

There are two main types of cryptography: symmetric and asymmetric. Symmetric cryptography uses a single secret key for both encryption and decryption. This method is generally faster but requires a secure way to exchange the key between parties. Asymmetric cryptography, also known as public-key cryptography, uses a pair of keys: a public key for encryption and a private key for decryption. The public key can be shared widely, while the private key must be kept secret. This approach is crucial for digital signatures and secure key exchange.

Modern cryptography plays a vital role in securing various aspects of digital life, including online transactions, secure browsing (HTTPS), secure messaging applications, and digital currencies like Bitcoin. Its principles are also applied in areas such as digital rights management and secure software development. The field is constantly evolving to address new security challenges and threats.
