Kriptodevizát, also known as cryptocurrency, refers to digital or virtual currencies that are secured by cryptography, which makes them nearly impossible to counterfeit or double-spend. Many cryptocurrencies are decentralized networks based on blockchain technology—a distributed ledger enforced by a disparate network of computers. A defining feature of cryptocurrencies is that they are generally not issued by any central authority, rendering them theoretically immune to government interference or manipulation.

The first and most well-known cryptocurrency is Bitcoin, which was created in 2009 by an unknown person or group of people using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. Since then, thousands of other cryptocurrencies have been created, often referred to as altcoins. These altcoins can differ from Bitcoin in their technology, consensus mechanisms, or intended use cases. For example, Ethereum, launched in 2015, introduced smart contracts, allowing for more complex applications to be built on its blockchain.

The value of cryptocurrencies can be highly volatile, fluctuating significantly due to market demand, regulatory news, and technological developments. They are typically traded on cryptocurrency exchanges, where users can buy, sell, or trade them. While some view cryptocurrencies as a revolutionary new form of money and a hedge against traditional financial systems, others express concerns about their speculative nature, potential for illicit use, and environmental impact associated with some mining processes.
