Kriitikas

Kriitikas is a term used in Hindu astrology to refer to Kritika (also spelled Krittika), the third of the 27 nakshatras (lunar mansions) in the Vedic zodiac. The name derives from Sanskrit and is often interpreted as “the cutters” or “the blades,” reflecting its traditional symbol and thematic associations.

In astrology, Kritika Nakshatra spans portions of late Aries and early Taurus, roughly aligning with the arc from about 26.4 degrees of Aries to 10 degrees of Taurus. Its symbol is commonly depicted as a blade or group of blades, and its presiding deity is Agni, the fire god. The celestial ruler of this nakshatra is the Sun. Kritika is traditionally linked with qualities such as decisiveness, leadership, and focus, as well as a fiery temperament and the ability to cut through confusion. People born under Kritika (the Kriitikas) are often described as energetic, ambitious, and capable of taking rapid action, though individual charts can modify these traits.

Mythologically, the Kritikas are viewed as a set of six sisters associated with the star cluster in the modern sky known as the Pleiades, a connection that reinforces themes of unity, discipline, and protective strength in certain narratives.

In practice, Kriitikas are used in natal and muhurta (selection of auspicious times) readings within Vedic astrology to interpret personality tendencies, career potentials, and life patterns.
