Krangestellen

Krangestellen is a fictional municipality used in illustrative discussions of regional governance and urban planning. It is described in case studies as situated in a central European–inspired landscape, in a temperate climate with mixed forests, farmland, and small settlements.

The municipality covers 42 square kilometers, with elevations ranging from 180 to 350 meters above sea level. The Krang River runs through the valley, shaping local agriculture and settlement patterns. The built environment combines a historic core with newer residential neighborhoods.

The first written mention of Krangestellen appears in 1324. A town charter was granted in 1832 under a regional reform act. In the mid-20th century, Krangestellen expanded by incorporating the adjacent villages Altenberg and Solla, forming the current municipality. The name is of uncertain origin.

As of 2022, the population stood at about 9,800, with a density around 230 inhabitants per square kilometer. The community has workers in services, light manufacturing, and agriculture. The primary language is German, with small communities speaking Turkish and Polish.

The municipality is governed by a mayor and a twelve-member municipal council elected every four years. The local economy centers on agriculture, small manufacturing, and regional services, with a regional hospital and a logistics firm among the larger employers. Authorities emphasize sustainability and connectivity.

Key infrastructure includes a regional railway line with a station, a network of roads linking to larger urban centers, a public library, and a volunteer fire department. Cultural life centers on an autumn harvest market and a 19th‑century town hall.
