Kosmetikaförsök refers to experiments conducted on animals to test the safety and efficacy of cosmetic products and their ingredients. This practice has been a subject of significant ethical debate and has led to regulatory changes in many parts of the world.

Historically, animal testing was a common method for cosmetic companies to ensure products would not cause harm to human consumers. Various animals, including rabbits, mice, and guinea pigs, were used in tests to assess potential skin irritation, eye damage, and allergic reactions. Specific tests included the Draize test for eye and skin irritation and the LD50 test to determine toxicity.

However, growing public concern over animal welfare and the development of alternative testing methods have led to a significant shift away from kosmetikaförsök. Many countries and regions, such as the European Union, India, Israel, and several states in the US, have implemented full or partial bans on the sale of cosmetics tested on animals. This has prompted the cosmetic industry to invest heavily in and adopt non-animal testing strategies.

These alternatives include in vitro methods using human cell cultures, reconstructed human tissue models, and computational modeling. These modern approaches can often provide more relevant data for human safety assessments than traditional animal tests, while also being faster and more cost-effective. Despite the progress, some regions still permit animal testing for cosmetics, and the global landscape of cosmetic testing regulations continues to evolve.
