Koskettimilla

Koskettimilla is a Finnish instrumental plural form of kosketin, a word with two principal senses: a keyboard or keys on a keyboard (as in piano, computer keyboard) and an electrical contact or switch in devices. The form derives from koskettaa, meaning “to touch,” and the -illa/-illä ending marks the instrumental case, indicating the means by which something is done: “with the keys” or “by the contacts.”

In music, koskettimet refer to the keys of keyboard instruments such as pianos, organs, or synthesizers. Koskettimilla describes performing or operating the instrument by pressing those keys; for example, phrases like “Pianon koskettimilla soittaminen vaatii sorminäppäryyttä” or “Koskettimilla näppäileminen.” The usage emphasizes the physical action of touching the keys to produce sound.

In electronics and engineering, koskettimet denote electrical contacts or switches within a device, such as a relay or connector. In this sense, koskettimilla can describe actions performed via the contacts, for instance “kytkimen käynnistys tapahtuu koskettimilla.”
