Korskoblere is a term used in Nordic agricultural discourse to refer to breeders who deliberately produce crossbreeds by mating individuals from different breeds or genetic lines. The term applies across livestock, poultry, and horticultural breeding, and to some extent in aquaculture. The practice is contrasted with pure-breed breeding, which prioritizes maintaining a single breed’s characteristics. Proponents say crossbreeding can combine favorable traits and create heterosis, improving productivity, resilience, or adaptability. Critics warn that it can erode breed identity and reduce genetic diversity if not managed responsibly.

The word derives from Scandinavian roots meaning cross and breeder; it appears in farming literature and industry groups that discuss breeding strategies.

Korskoblere typically plan mating pairs, evaluate potential donor lines, and select offspring based on performance data such as growth, fertility, disease resistance, or product quality.
