Korrosionszuschläge

Korrosionszuschläge, in English "corrosion allowances," are additional thicknesses of material intentionally incorporated into the design of metal components, particularly in pressure vessels, piping, and structural elements. The primary purpose of a corrosion allowance is to compensate for the expected loss of material due to corrosion or erosion over the component's service life. By adding this extra thickness, the component can maintain its structural integrity and intended function for a longer period, even after a certain amount of material has been consumed by corrosive processes.

The amount of corrosion allowance specified is typically based on factors such as the expected rate of corrosion, the service environment (e.g., presence of aggressive chemicals, temperature, humidity), the intended lifespan of the component, and relevant industry codes and standards. For instance, in environments with highly corrosive substances, a larger allowance might be necessary than in relatively benign conditions. This proactive design measure helps prevent premature failure, reduces the frequency of repairs or replacements, and enhances the overall safety and reliability of equipment. Without adequate corrosion allowances, components might fail unexpectedly, leading to costly downtime, safety hazards, and environmental damage.
