Korpiklaanis

Korpiklaani is a Finnish folk metal band from Jyväskylä. The group was formed in 2003 by Jonne Järvelä and initially operated under the name Shaman before adopting the Korpiklaani title in the mid-2000s. The band combines heavy, guitar-driven metal with traditional Finnish folk elements, using instruments such as violin, accordion, tambourine, and, at times, bagpipes and mandolin. This blend creates a sound described as energetic, melodic, and rooted in communal feel.

Lyrically, Korpiklaani often draws on nature, Finnish folklore, and communal revelry, including songs that function as drinking tunes. The emphasis on melody and folk motifs alongside metal riffs has helped the band cultivate a distinctive, accessible style within the broader folk metal scene.

The band has released multiple studio albums on Napalm Records and other labels, building an international following through extensive touring in Europe, North America, and beyond. Their live performances are noted for their festive atmosphere, audience participation, and stage aesthetics that reflect their folkloric themes. Over the years, Korpiklaani has undergone lineup changes, while Jonne Järvelä has remained the central driving force and primary songwriter. The ensemble’s ongoing output has contributed to the continued growth of folk metal as a respected subgenre within heavy music.
