Koorms
Koorms are a fictional species of semi-aquatic mammals described in worldbuilding literature. They are native to the Valen Archipelago, a temperate coastal region. Adults measure 60–75 cm in body length with a compact body, dense waterproof fur, a broad head, and a laterally compressed tail. Hind feet are webbed, and their dentition includes incisors suited for a mixed diet of aquatic plants and small invertebrates. The name Koorm derives from an ancient local word meaning “to swim.”
Ecology and behavior: Koorms live in family groups called rafts, usually 4–12 members. They are largely diurnal
Reproduction and lifecycle: Breeding occurs annually. Gestation lasts about 58–66 days, yielding 1–3 offspring per litter.
Taxonomy and distribution: In the setting’s taxonomy, Koorms belong to the family Koormidae within the order
