These compulsions can take many forms. Examples include excessive handwashing, checking that doors are locked, arranging items in a specific order, or repeating words or phrases silently. The individual typically recognizes that the compulsion is excessive or irrational, but feels unable to resist performing it without experiencing significant discomfort.
