Kontrollfelder

Kontrollfelder, also known as checkboxes, are a graphical user interface element that allows a user to select or deselect an option. They are typically presented as small squares that, when clicked, display a checkmark or an 'X' to indicate selection. Multiple checkboxes in a group can often be selected independently of each other, meaning that choosing one does not affect the state of another. This is in contrast to radio buttons, where only one option can be chosen from a set.

The primary function of a Kontrollfeld is to enable binary choices, typically for settings or preferences where a feature can be either enabled or disabled, or where a particular item can be included or excluded from a process. They are commonly found in web forms, software applications, and operating system dialog boxes. For example, a user might see checkboxes for options like "Remember me on this device," "Subscribe to newsletter," or "Include subfolders" when configuring settings or filling out a form.

The visual representation of a Kontrollfeld is usually a small, empty square. When activated, a visible marker, most commonly a checkmark, appears within the square. Clicking an active Kontrollfeld again will remove the marker, returning it to its unchecked state. The underlying implementation typically involves a boolean value associated with each checkbox, which is either true (checked) or false (unchecked), and this value is used by the application to determine the user's choice.
