Kontinensproblem, also known as incontinence, refers to the involuntary loss of urine or feces. This condition can affect people of all ages, though it is more common in older adults. There are several types of incontinence, including stress incontinence, urge incontinence, overflow incontinence, and functional incontinence. Stress incontinence occurs due to physical exertion, such as coughing or sneezing, which puts pressure on the bladder. Urge incontinence is characterized by a sudden, strong urge to urinate followed by involuntary leakage. Overflow incontinence happens when the bladder is not emptied completely, leading to leakage of small amounts of urine. Functional incontinence is when a physical or mental impairment prevents a person from reaching the toilet in time.

The causes of incontinence are varied and can include weakened pelvic floor muscles, nerve damage, urinary tract infections, certain medications, constipation, and conditions like diabetes or multiple sclerosis. Diagnosis typically involves a medical history, physical examination, and sometimes urine tests or urodynamic studies to assess bladder function. Treatment approaches depend on the type and cause of incontinence and may include lifestyle changes, pelvic floor exercises, bladder training, medication, or surgical interventions. In many cases, incontinence can be managed effectively, improving the quality of life for those affected.
