Konsumentenverträgen

Konsumentenverträgen, also known as consumer contracts, are legal agreements entered into between a business and an individual consumer. These contracts are specifically designed to protect the consumer, who is generally considered to be in a weaker bargaining position than the business. German law, particularly the Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch (BGB), contains a comprehensive set of provisions governing these agreements.

Key characteristics of Konsumentenverträgen include specific information duties for the business before the contract is concluded, such as providing details about the goods or services, the total price, and the terms of payment. There are also rules regarding unfair contract terms, which are void if they unreasonably disadvantage the consumer. A significant protection for consumers is the right of withdrawal, often referred to as a cooling-off period. This allows consumers to cancel certain types of contracts within a specified timeframe without needing to provide a reason.
