Konkurentsihäire

Konkurentsihäire is an Estonian term that translates to "competition disturbance" or "disruption of competition." It refers to situations where competition in a market is unfairly restricted or eliminated, leading to negative consequences for consumers and the overall economy. This can occur through various anti-competitive practices.

Common forms of konkurentsihäire include cartels, where competing businesses collude to fix prices, divide markets, or limit production. The Estonian Competition Authority (Konkurentsiamet) is responsible for monitoring and enforcing competition law to prevent and address instances of konkurentsihäire. Investigating suspected violations and imposing penalties on companies found to be engaging in anti-competitive practices are key functions of this authority.
