Konjunkturen, often referred to as konjunkturen, describes the cyclical fluctuations in economic activity within a nation or region. These fluctuations are characterized by periods of expansion, growth, and prosperity, followed by periods of contraction, recession, and decline. The pattern is not perfectly predictable, but general trends can be observed.

Key phases of the economic cycle include the expansionary phase, where economic output increases, unemployment falls, and consumer spending rises. This is typically followed by a peak, representing the highest point of economic activity before a downturn begins. The contractionary phase, or recession, is marked by a decline in economic output, rising unemployment, and reduced consumer and business investment. If the contraction is severe and prolonged, it can lead to a depression, a more extreme form of economic downturn. Finally, the trough represents the lowest point of economic activity, after which a new expansionary phase begins.

Various factors influence these cycles, including changes in aggregate demand, technological advancements, government policies, and international economic conditions.
