Konfidensberäkningar, also known as confidence interval calculations, are statistical methods used to estimate the range within which a population parameter, such as the mean or proportion, is likely to fall with a certain level of confidence. These calculations are fundamental in inferential statistics, allowing researchers to make informed inferences about a larger population based on sample data.

The primary idea behind konfidensberäkningar is to construct an interval around a sample estimate that is expected to contain the true population parameter a specified percentage of the time over repeated sampling. This percentage is referred to as the confidence level, commonly set at 90%, 95%, or 99%. For example, a 95% confidence interval suggests that if the same sampling process were repeated numerous times, approximately 95% of the calculated intervals would contain the true parameter.

The calculation of confidence intervals involves the sample estimate (such as the sample mean), the variability of the data (standard deviation or standard error), and the chosen confidence level, which determines the critical value from statistical distributions like the normal distribution or t-distribution. The resulting interval provides researchers with an estimated range that, with a specified confidence level, is likely to contain the true population parameter.
