Konduktiollesi

Konduktiollesi is a Finnish term that translates to "conduction disease" or "conduction disorder." It refers to a condition affecting the electrical conduction system of the heart. This system is responsible for generating and transmitting electrical impulses that coordinate the heart's contractions, ensuring it beats in a regular rhythm. When there is a problem with conduction, these impulses can be slowed, blocked, or conducted erratically, leading to an abnormal heart rhythm known as an arrhythmia.

There are several types of conduction disorders, often categorized by the specific part of the heart's electrical pathway that is affected. For instance, sinoatrial node dysfunction involves problems with the heart's natural pacemaker, while atrioventricular (AV) block refers to a delay or interruption in the signal between the upper and lower chambers of the heart. Bundle branch blocks affect the pathways that conduct electrical signals to the ventricles.

Symptoms of konduktiollesi can vary widely depending on the severity and type of the conduction disorder. Some individuals may experience no symptoms at all, while others might suffer from palpitations, dizziness, fainting (syncope), shortness of breath, or chest pain. Diagnosis typically involves an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), which records the heart's electrical activity, and may be supplemented by other tests like Holter monitoring or electrophysiology studies. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and the patient's symptoms and may range from medication to the implantation of a pacemaker to regulate the heart rhythm.
