Kondensaattoriryhmässä, known in English as a capacitor bank, refers to a collection of capacitors connected together to achieve a specific electrical function. These functions can include increasing capacitance, storing a larger amount of energy, or filtering electrical noise. The way capacitors are connected, either in series or parallel, determines the overall capacitance and voltage rating of the group.

When capacitors are connected in parallel, their capacitances add up, while the voltage rating remains the same as the lowest-rated individual capacitor. This configuration is often used to increase the total capacitance available for energy storage or to provide a larger filtering effect. In a series connection, the reciprocal of the total capacitance is the sum of the reciprocals of the individual capacitances, and the total voltage rating is the sum of the individual voltage ratings. Series connections are typically used to achieve a higher working voltage than any single capacitor can withstand.

Capacitor banks are fundamental components in a wide range of electronic and electrical systems. They are commonly found in power supplies for smoothing out rectified AC voltage, in motor starting circuits to provide an initial torque boost, and in pulsed power applications like high-energy lasers and electromagnetic launchers where large amounts of energy need to be discharged rapidly. The design and selection of capacitors for a group depend on the specific application's requirements regarding capacitance, voltage, current handling, and operational frequency. Safety considerations, such as proper insulation and discharge mechanisms, are also crucial when working with capacitor banks due to the stored energy.
