KokosfaserPeat, also known as coco peat or coir pith, is a growing medium derived from the husk of coconuts. It is a byproduct of the coir fiber industry, which processes coconut husks for use in ropes, mats, and brushes. The fine material left after the longer fibers are removed is washed, dried, and processed into coco peat.

Coco peat is valued for its excellent water retention and aeration properties. It can hold up to eight times its weight in water, making it an efficient substitute for peat moss in horticulture. Its fibrous structure also promotes good drainage, preventing waterlogging and root rot. Coco peat is naturally resistant to pathogens and diseases, which can be a benefit for plant health.

The pH level of coco peat is typically between 5.2 and 6.8, which is suitable for a wide range of plants. It is also a renewable resource, unlike peat moss, which is harvested from bogs and is a non-renewable resource. Coco peat is often sold compressed into bricks or blocks, which expand when soaked in water, making it easy to transport and store. It is widely used in commercial horticulture, hydroponics, and home gardening for seed starting, potting mixes, and soil amendment.
