Kokonaisverkkoyhteys, also known as a full mesh network, is a type of network topology in which every node is directly connected to every other node. This means that each device in the network has a dedicated point-to-point link to every other device. The primary advantage of a full mesh network is its high level of redundancy and fault tolerance. If one link fails, data can still be routed through alternative paths, ensuring continuous connectivity. This makes full mesh networks ideal for critical applications where reliability is paramount, such as in telecommunications, military communications, and certain industrial control systems.

However, the main drawback of a full mesh network is its high cost and complexity. The number of connections required grows exponentially with the number of nodes. For example, a network with n nodes requires n(n-1)/2 connections. This can result in significant infrastructure and maintenance costs. Additionally, managing and configuring such a network can be complex, requiring sophisticated network management tools and expertise.

In contrast to a full mesh network, a partial mesh network, or hybrid mesh network, connects only some of the nodes directly, while others are connected through intermediate nodes. This reduces the number of connections and associated costs, but also reduces the level of redundancy and fault tolerance.

Full mesh networks are typically used in scenarios where the benefits of high reliability and redundancy outweigh the costs and complexity. They are less common in general-purpose networking due to these factors, but they play a crucial role in specialized applications where their unique advantages are essential.
