Kokeilutyyppejä refers to different categories or designs of experiments. The primary goal of experimental design is to establish a causal relationship between an independent variable and a dependent variable while minimizing the influence of confounding factors.

One common type is a controlled experiment, which typically involves a control group and one or more experimental groups. The control group does not receive the treatment or manipulation being studied, serving as a baseline for comparison. The experimental group(s) receive the treatment, and differences in outcomes between the groups are attributed to the independent variable.

Another approach is a quasi-experiment. Unlike true experiments, quasi-experiments do not involve random assignment of participants to groups. This often occurs when random assignment is not feasible or ethical. For example, studying the effects of a natural disaster on a population cannot involve randomly assigning people to experience the disaster. Researchers in quasi-experiments rely on statistical techniques to control for potential confounding variables.

Observational studies are also sometimes considered in the broader context of research aiming to understand relationships, though they are not strictly experiments as no intervention is actively manipulated. In observational studies, researchers observe and measure variables of interest without intervening. This can include cross-sectional studies, which examine data from a population at a single point in time, and longitudinal studies, which follow a group of individuals over an extended period. While observational studies can identify correlations, they are less effective at establishing causation due to the inherent difficulty in controlling for all extraneous variables.

The choice of experimental type depends on the research question, ethical considerations, available resources, and the desired level of certainty regarding causal inference.
