Kohinports

Kohinports is a port complex comprising several terminals that serves as a gateway for international and domestic maritime traffic. Located on a coastal region, it connects regional markets with global supply chains through container, bulk, and vehicle handling facilities. The complex is governed by the Kohinports Authority and operates through a mix of public ownership and private concessionaires.

The port began as a modest harbor in the early 20th century and expanded in the late 20th century with containerization and modern equipment. It has since undergone successive modernization programs to widen berths, increase yard space, and improve intermodal links to rail and road networks.

Facilities include container terminals with gantry cranes, bulk cargo berths, a roll-on/roll-off facility for vehicles, and a dedicated refrigerated area for perishable goods. An adjacent freight village provides warehousing, customs services, and logistics support. Rail sidings and highway connections link the port to inland markets.

Operations are carried out by private terminal operators under concession agreements and coordinated by the Kohinports Authority. The port adheres to international safety, security, and environmental standards and participates in customs and trade programs.

Economically, Kohinports is a major employer and a key driver of regional trade, enabling exports of agricultural and manufactured goods and the import of consumer and industrial commodities.

Environmental and future plans focus on dredging stewardship, waste management, energy efficiency, and expanding berths and yard capacity to accommodate larger ships and growing cargo volumes.
