Kleinhirnveränderungen refer to any structural alterations or abnormalities within the cerebellum, a crucial part of the brain located at the back of the skull beneath the cerebrum. The cerebellum plays a vital role in coordinating voluntary movements, posture, balance, coordination, and speech, resulting in smooth and balanced muscular activity.

These changes can arise from a variety of causes, including congenital malformations, genetic disorders, trauma, stroke, tumors, infections, inflammatory conditions, or neurodegenerative diseases. For instance, conditions like Chiari malformations involve the cerebellum being displaced downwards, while cerebellar hypoplasia describes underdeveloped cerebellar tissue. Tumors, such as medulloblastomas or pilocytic astrocytomas, can disrupt normal cerebellar function by occupying space and exerting pressure.
