Klassenhäufigkeiten, also known as class frequencies, are a fundamental concept in statistics used to summarize and organize data. They represent the number of data points that fall within a specific range or category, known as a class interval. When dealing with a large dataset, it is often impractical to examine each individual value. Instead, data is grouped into classes, and the frequency of each class is calculated. This process helps in understanding the distribution of the data, identifying patterns, and making comparisons.

To determine class frequencies, the range of the data is first divided into a series of non-overlapping intervals. These intervals are the classes. Then, each data point is assigned to the class it belongs to. The class frequency is simply the count of how many data points fall into each specific class. For example, if we are analyzing the heights of students, we might create classes like 150-159 cm, 160-169 cm, and so on. The class frequency for 160-169 cm would be the number of students whose height falls within that range.

Class frequencies are often presented in a frequency table, which lists each class interval alongside its corresponding frequency. This table can then be used to create graphical representations such as histograms or bar charts, which visually display the distribution of the data. Understanding class frequencies is crucial for various statistical analyses, including calculating measures of central tendency and dispersion, and for making informed decisions based on data.
