Kjøretøyforsikring

Kjøretøyforsikring, often referred to as bilforsikring or motorsykkel-forsikring depending on the vehicle, is a contract between a vehicle owner and an insurance company. This contract provides financial protection against losses resulting from a vehicle accident. In many countries, certain types of kjøretøyforsikring are legally mandated for all registered vehicles.

There are typically several levels of kjøretøyforsikring. The most basic is often called ansvarsforsikring, which covers damages to third parties – meaning other people or their property – if the insured vehicle is at fault in an accident. The cost of kjøretøyforsikring, known as premien, is determined by various factors. These often include the type of vehicle, its age and value, the driver's age and driving history, where the vehicle is primarily used, and the chosen level of coverage. Discounts may be available for drivers with a clean record, for vehicles equipped with safety features, or for insuring multiple vehicles with the same company. The purpose of kjøretøyforsikring is to mitigate the significant financial burden that can arise from vehicle-related incidents, providing peace of mind to vehicle owners.
