The name is drawn from a constructed language used by authors in the canon, with kjarn meaning nucleus or core and himnu meaning chamber or fortress, implying a central protective locus.

In the imagined geography, kjarnahimnu lies within the crust of a fictional planetary body and consists of a branching network of galleries connected to a central nucleus chamber. Crystalline walls line the passages, and some veins glow faintly.
