Kirkkovuosi, also known as the liturgical year or church year, is the annual cycle of seasons and festivals observed by various Christian denominations. It begins on the first Sunday of Advent, four weeks before Christmas, and concludes on the last Sunday of the liturgical year, typically the Sunday before Advent. The Kirkkovuosi is structured around the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, commemorating significant events such as his birth, baptism, suffering, death, and resurrection.

The year is divided into two main periods: the Christmas season and the Easter season. The Christmas season, starting with Advent, includes Christmas Day and Epiphany, celebrating Jesus' birth and manifestation. The Easter season begins with Lent, a period of penitence and fasting, leading up to Holy Week, which culminates in Good Friday and Easter Sunday, commemorating Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. The period after Easter is known as the Eastertide or the season of Pentecost, celebrating the descent of the Holy Spirit.
