Kirkby is a town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, Merseyside, England. Historically in Lancashire, it is situated to the north east of Liverpool. The town's origins can be traced back to a small settlement that grew around Kirkby Hall, a manor house dating back to the 11th century. Its modern development began in the 1950s and 1960s when it was designated as a "New Town" to accommodate the overspill population from Liverpool. This led to significant construction of housing estates, factories, and amenities.
