Kinnara

Kinnara refers to a celestial being from Hindu and Buddhist cosmology that is half-human and half-bird. Traditionally distinguished as male (kinnara) and female (kinnari or kinnaree), they are celebrated as unparalleled musicians and singers. In Hindu lore they are associated with the Gandharvas, the celestial musicians, and are said to dwell in the realm of the gods, where they perform and inspire with song and instrument.

In Buddhist iconography and narratives, kinnaras and kinnari are benevolent figures linked to music, beauty, and the arts. They often appear in carvings and paintings as graceful beings, serving as symbols of refined culture and harmony. Their depictions emphasize aesthetic elegance and musical prowess more than martial power.
