Kindlustusvõlakirjad, also known as insurance-linked securities (ILS), are a financial instrument that allows insurance risk to be transferred to investors. These securities are typically issued by special purpose vehicles (SPVs) or conduits that are capitalized by the proceeds from the sale of the securities. The investors who purchase these bonds receive a return based on the performance of the underlying insurance policies. If a predefined insured event, such as a natural disaster, occurs and causes significant losses to the insurer, the investors may lose some or all of their principal investment.
