The Kimberley Process, or Kimberleyprosessissa in Finnish, is an international certification scheme established to prevent the flow of rough diamonds used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments. It aims to ensure that rough diamonds sold on the international market are conflict-free. The process was initiated in 2000 by the United Nations General Assembly and was formally launched in 2003.
