Kilayim

Kilayim is a tractate of the Mishnah and the Babylonian Talmud. It is part of Seder Nashim, the Order of Women, in the Talmudic division of rabbinic literature. The name "Kilayim" translates to "Diverse Kinds" or "Mixtures" in English.

The primary subject of Kilayim is the prohibition of kilayim, which encompasses various types of forbidden mixtures as enumerated in the Torah. These prohibitions include the mixing of different species of plants in agriculture (sha'atnez), the mixing of animal species for plowing or labor, and the mixture of wool and linen in garments. The tractate details the specific laws and applications of these prohibitions, often providing practical examples and rabbinic interpretations.

Within the Mishnah, Kilayim is divided into nine chapters. These chapters systematically address the different categories of kilayim. The Gemara, the commentary on the Mishnah found in the Talmud, further elaborates on the discussions presented in the Mishnah.
