Kiinteälogiikkaohjaimet, often translated as fixed-logic controllers or hardwired logic controllers, represent an older but still relevant category of industrial automation devices. Unlike programmable logic controllers (PLCs) that use software to define their operational logic, fixed-logic controllers rely on physical electrical components such as relays, timers, and switches to implement their control functions. The logic is literally "wired in" through the interconnections of these discrete components.

These controllers are characterized by their direct and immediate response to input signals. When an input is activated, the corresponding output changes state according to the predefined physical circuit. This simplicity makes them very robust and reliable for straightforward tasks where the control sequence is fixed and unlikely to change. They are often found in simpler applications like basic motor control, interlocks, or sequential operations that do not require complex decision-making or data processing.

The primary advantage of fixed-logic controllers is their inherent simplicity and immediate responsiveness. They are generally less expensive for very simple applications and are easier to troubleshoot for individuals familiar with basic electrical wiring. However, their inflexibility is their major drawback. Any change in the control logic requires rewiring the physical components, which can be time-consuming and prone to errors. This makes them unsuitable for applications requiring adaptability, complex algorithms, or integration with other systems. Despite the prevalence of PLCs, fixed-logic controllers continue to be used in niche applications where their specific strengths are advantageous.
