Kiertopyörän

Kiertopyörän, often translated as rotary kiln, is a type of industrial oven that rotates around a horizontal or slightly inclined axis. It is commonly used for a wide range of thermal treatment processes, including calcination, roasting, drying, and incineration. The cylindrical shell of a kiertopyörän is typically lined with refractory bricks to withstand high temperatures.

The material to be treated is fed into the higher end of the inclined cylinder. As the cylinder rotates, the material tumbles and moves slowly down towards the lower end. Heat is applied to the lower end, usually by a burner, and the hot gases flow counter-current to the material, ensuring efficient heat transfer. The rotation of the kiln ensures that the material is continuously exposed to the heat and gases, leading to uniform processing.
