Kiertohakuiset, also known as pericytes, are a type of cell found in the blood vessels of the human body. They are a subpopulation of perivascular cells that play a crucial role in the structure and function of blood vessels. Pericytes are characterized by their ability to surround and wrap around small blood vessels, including capillaries.

Pericytes are attached to the endothelial cells that line the interior of blood vessels through unique structures called podosomes, which provide a strong mechanical attachment. Pericytes have been found to have a distinctive morphology, often appearing as tightly packed clusters.
