Khulna

Khulna is a major city in southwestern Bangladesh. It is the administrative center of Khulna Division and the district of Khulna. The city lies on the Rupsha River, near the Sundarbans mangrove forest, and forms part of the Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta.

Khulna is an important commercial and industrial hub in the region. Local industries include shipbuilding and shipbreaking, fisheries, processing, and light manufacturing. The nearby Mongla Port, one of the country's major seaports, serves regional and international trade.

The city hosts several higher education institutions, including the University of Khulna and multiple colleges. It also serves as a cultural center for the southwestern region.

Khulna has a tropical monsoon climate with hot summers and a monsoon season bringing most rainfall from May to October. It lies near the Sundarbans, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which influences local biodiversity and ecotourism.

Historically a river port and commercial center during the Bengal Presidency era, Khulna developed around trade routes and agricultural products such as jute and rice.
