Keskpangale

Keskpangale is a coastal town and commune located on Keskpangale Island in the fictional Neru archipelago, in the western Sema Sea. It has a population of about 12,000 residents and serves as the administrative center of the Keskpangale Municipal District.

Geography and climate: The town sits in a sheltered bay, with mangrove-lined shores, coral reefs offshore, and a gentle hilly hinterland. The climate is temperate maritime with mild summers and wet winters.

History: The area was settled by seafaring communities in the early medieval period. The name Keskpangale is thought to derive from the local language, meaning "harbor meeting", reflecting its long-standing role as a trading port. It grew significantly in the 16th–18th centuries through fisheries, salt production, and craft trades.

Economy and infrastructure: Today the economy centers on fisheries and seafood processing, small-scale crafts, and tourism. The port handles commercial and fishing vessels, and a short ferry network connects Keskpangale with neighboring islands. A regional airport on a nearby island provides air access, with regular shuttle services.

Governance and education: Keskpangale operates under a mayor–council government within the Neru Prefecture. The town maintains one secondary school, a technical college, and a public library. Local planning emphasizes sustainable fishing and coastal protection.

Cultural life: The community maintains traditional music and dance, and hosts the annual Festival of the Tide, celebrating maritime heritage. Local cuisine emphasizes fish, shellfish, coconuts, and citrus. The local language, Keskpangali, is recognized alongside the national language.

Notable sites: Keskpangale Lighthouse, the Old Market, and the Coral Reserve are popular with visitors and researchers.
