Kelkit
Kelkit is a town and district in Sivas Province in the central eastern part of Turkey. It lies in the Kelkit Valley, an area historically known for its fertile lands and strategic position along the Kelkit River. The district covers an area of approximately 1,500 square kilometres and, as of the latest census, has a population of around 35,000 inhabitants. The local economy is largely based on agriculture, livestock breeding, and small‑scale artisanal crafts. The town is accessible via the D.100 highway that connects the city of Sivas with other major urban centres.
The Kelkit River, after which the district is named, is a significant tributary of the Çoruh River.
