Keelen

Keelen is a constructed language developed for a fictional world used in novels, tabletop games, and online media. It functions as the native tongue of several communities in the eastern coastal region of the imagined continent of Seridia. The language was created as part of a world-building project and has since been described in grammars and dictionaries by its developers and by fan communities.

Keelen has a modest consonant inventory and a five-vowel system. Syllables typically follow a (C)(C)V(C) pattern, and stress is trochaic. The language distinguishes short and long vowels, and allows geminate consonants in some word forms. Phonotactic rules constrain consonant clusters to simple combinations, with certain sequences avoided at word boundaries.

Keelen follows a basic subject–verb–object order in simple sentences. Nouns generally do not inflect for case; number is marked by suffixes on the noun, with the plural suffix -n in most dialects. Verbs show aspectual markings and can take optional auxiliary verbs to indicate mood. Demonstratives and adjectives follow the nouns, and modifiers agree in number with the nouns they modify.

Keelen is normally written with a Latin-based alphabet augmented by diacritics to indicate vowel length and tone. A community standard orthography exists, but regional spellings are common in fan texts.

Today, Keelen has a small, active community of learners and creators who publish grammars, vocabulary lists, and example texts online. While it has no official status outside its fictional setting, it is used in media productions and fan projects to convey local flavor and world-building detail.
