Kasungu

Kasungu is a town in the Central Region of Malawi and the administrative capital of Kasungu District. It is situated along the major north–south trunk road (the M1), which links Lilongwe to towns in the north, making Kasungu an important local market and transport hub. The town hosts district government offices, a market, schools, and basic health facilities that serve Kasungu and surrounding communities.

Nearby is Kasungu National Park, one of Malawi’s larger protected areas. The park protects savanna habitats and wildlife such as elephants, antelopes, and predators, and it is a destination for safari visitors and researchers. The park contributes to conservation and to the local economy through tourism and employment opportunities.

Economy in the Kasungu area is predominantly agricultural, with tobacco, maize, groundnuts, and beans grown by smallholder farmers. Trade and services, including shops, transport providers, and other small businesses, support the local economy.
