Kalvopumppu

Kalvopumppu, also known as diaphragm pump, is a type of positive displacement pump. It utilizes a reciprocating action of a flexible diaphragm to move fluid. The diaphragm, typically made of rubber or plastic, is connected to a drive mechanism, often a motor or a compressed air source. As the diaphragm moves in one direction, it creates a larger volume in the pump chamber, drawing fluid in through an inlet valve. On its return stroke, the diaphragm reduces the chamber volume, forcing the fluid out through an outlet valve.

Kalvopumput are commonly used in various industrial and domestic applications. They are well-suited for handling corrosive, abrasive, or viscous liquids due to their ability to isolate the fluid from the pump's internal mechanisms. This makes them ideal for chemical processing, paint spraying, and wastewater treatment. The absence of seals that come into direct contact with the fluid also minimizes leakage and wear.

There are several types of kalvopumput, including air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumps and mechanically operated diaphragm pumps. AODD pumps use compressed air to drive two diaphragms simultaneously, allowing for continuous flow and self-priming capabilities. Mechanically operated pumps use a crank or cam system driven by an electric motor to move the diaphragm. The choice of kalvopumppu depends on factors such as the required flow rate, pressure, fluid properties, and available power source.
