Kalsiumlähteet refers to the various sources from which humans can obtain calcium, an essential mineral vital for bone health, muscle function, nerve transmission, and blood clotting. Dietary intake is the primary method of acquiring calcium. Dairy products are widely recognized as excellent sources, including milk, cheese, and yogurt. However, calcium can also be found in non-dairy options. Leafy green vegetables such as kale, spinach, and broccoli contain significant amounts of calcium, though its absorption can be affected by oxalates present in some of these vegetables. Fortified foods are another important category. Many plant-based milks, orange juices, cereals, and tofu are fortified with calcium to help individuals meet their daily requirements. Small fish with edible bones, like sardines and anchovies, provide a good source of easily absorbable calcium. Certain nuts and seeds, such as almonds and sesame seeds, also contribute to calcium intake, albeit in smaller quantities. The recommended daily intake of calcium varies by age and physiological status, with higher needs for children, adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and older adults. Ensuring adequate calcium intake through a balanced diet or supplementation, when necessary, is crucial for preventing conditions like osteoporosis.
