Kaljukits

Kaljukits is the Estonian name for the Capricorn constellation. This constellation is one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. In the Northern Hemisphere, it is best viewed during the early evening in the month of August. The brightest star in Kaljukits is Delta Capricorni, also known as Deneb Algedi. This star system is located approximately 39 light-years away from Earth.

The constellation's name, Capricornus, is Latin for "horned goat" or "goat-horn." In Babylonian astronomy, it was depicted as a mythical creature that was half goat and half fish. This imagery is thought to be related to the god Enki, who was often associated with water and wisdom. In Greek mythology, Capricornus is sometimes identified with Amalthea, the goat that nursed the infant Zeus. Alternatively, it has been linked to the god Pan, who transformed himself into a goat to escape the monster Typhon.

Kaljukits is located in the region of the sky known as the 'Sea', a large area containing many small constellations with water-related names like Aquarius, Pisces, and Cetus. The ecliptic, the apparent path of the Sun across the celestial sphere, passes through Kaljukits. This means that the Sun is in the direction of this constellation during a specific part of the year, which is why it is one of the zodiac constellations. The Tropic of Capricorn is named after this constellation, as the Sun reaches its southernmost declination on the celestial sphere at the December solstice when it is in or near the constellation.
