Kalife

Kalife is a coastal city and regional capital in the fictional nation of Arelia. Located at the delta of the Kalife River along Arelia's western coast, it has a temperate maritime climate and a deep-water harbor that serves as a commercial and transport hub.

Kalife traces its origins to a trading post established in the 12th century. It grew under successive states through the medieval and early modern periods, benefitting from its harbor and caravan routes. The 19th and 20th centuries brought urban expansion, rail connections, and waterfront redevelopment, shaping its contemporary layout.

Today, Kalife is an economic center with a diversified economy. The port handles bulk cargo, containerized goods, and fishing; manufacturing includes seafood processing and light textiles. It hosts regional offices, markets, and a growing information technology and services sector.

The city has a population of about 230,000. Arelians and Kalifean languages are spoken, with a multilingual community in markets and universities. Kalife hosts an annual Market Days festival, music venues, and culinary traditions that blend coastal flavors, spices, and citrus.

Municipal government is led by a mayor and city council. Kalife has a ring road, a container terminal, an international airport, and a regional rail line. The urban core features preserved historic districts alongside modern neighborhoods.

Notable sites include the Old Town quarter, Fort Alnari, and the Kalife Lighthouse, as well as the Maritime Museum and the riverfront promenade.
