Kalciumszintjének refers to the level of calcium in a biological system, most commonly in the human body. Calcium is a vital mineral essential for numerous physiological functions. Its concentration within the blood, known as serum calcium or blood calcium, is tightly regulated by complex hormonal mechanisms to maintain a stable range.

The primary regulators of calcium levels are parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcitonin, and vitamin D. PTH, produced by the parathyroid glands, is released when blood calcium levels drop. It acts by increasing calcium reabsorption in the kidneys, releasing calcium from bones, and promoting vitamin D activation, which in turn enhances intestinal calcium absorption. Calcitonin, secreted by the thyroid gland, acts to lower blood calcium levels, primarily by inhibiting bone resorption and increasing calcium excretion by the kidneys, though its role in normal calcium homeostasis is considered less significant than PTH. Vitamin D is crucial for the absorption of dietary calcium in the intestines.
