Kaasujäähdytteiset refers to a cooling method where a gas is used as the cooling medium. This contrasts with liquid cooling, which uses liquids such as water or oil. In gas cooling systems, a gaseous substance, often air, circulates around a heat-generating component or area. The gas absorbs heat from the component and then carries it away, typically to be expelled into the surrounding environment or recirculated after being cooled.

This method is widely employed in various applications due to its simplicity and effectiveness. A common example is found in internal combustion engines, where air cooling fins are used to increase the surface area exposed to airflow, thereby enhancing heat dissipation. Electronics, especially smaller devices or those with less demanding heat loads, also frequently utilize air cooling, often with the aid of fans to force air movement.

The advantages of gas cooling include its low cost, minimal maintenance requirements, and the fact that leaks are generally less problematic than with liquid cooling systems. However, gas cooling can be less efficient than liquid cooling, particularly in situations with high heat density or limited airflow. The effectiveness of gas cooling is heavily dependent on the volume and velocity of the gas flow, as well as the temperature difference between the heat source and the cooling gas. In some specialized industrial processes, other gases besides air might be used for cooling, depending on specific temperature requirements and compatibility with the materials being cooled.
